FAQs
How do I get started?
Use the contact part of our website to either send an email inquiry or call to schedule your free 15-minute consultation. During this consultation you will be able to talk to your doctor about your goals for treatment and ask any questions you may have. The consultation is a great way to make sure we are a good match before committing to treatment.
What happens after the consultation?
If we mutually decide to work together, we will schedule an Initial Assessment appointment. During this appointment we will do a thorough review of your background, history, concerns, and goals to set the stage for therapy. This is crucial to have a successful therapeutic experience. This session is very different from actual therapy, although it can be therapeutic in its own way.
Do you take insurance?
Yes and no. Dr. Schlierf is in-network with Aetna and United Health insurances, Dr. Fenton is not in-network with any insurance. You will pay a co-pay or co-insurance based on your specific plan. If you have other insurance, upon request you can receive a "superbill" after each session that you can submit to your insurance provider. Your insurance provider may then reimburse you some portion of the fee. You are ultimately responsible for checking with your insurance to see what/if they will reimburse you. Full payment is required at the time of service.
What are the benefits of private pay?
Choosing to pay for your sessions without using insurance ensures the highest level of confidentiality in our work. It prevents the requirement to release your private records to any third party for review without your consent. Additionally, when using insurance you are required to have a diagnosis that goes on your medical record. Although you can receive a diagnosis if desired, private pay ensures that you do not needlessly have to be diagnosed simply to receive services.
What is your cancellation policy?
You are responsible to pay the session fee in full unless you call or email to cancel with at least 24 hour notice from the time of the scheduled appointment.
Where are you located for in-person services?
Grey Havens Psychological Services is located at 13001 Founder's Square Dr. in Avalon Park, Orlando FL 32828. Please visit the office by appointment only.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
A limited number of sliding scale client slots are available for private pay clients. You will need to provide proof of income (previous year’s Income Tax Return, two consecutive pay stubs, or the previous years’ W-2 forms).
How frequently do we meet?
We meet at a frequency that works for you and your goals. Typically, sessions are held anywhere from weekly, to bi-weekly, to monthly depending on the nature of your concerns and provider availability.
How long does therapy take?
Therapy length varies based on your presenting concern and goals. During your free consultation you will receive an estimate, which will be further refined in the Initial Assessment. Brief therapy for mild concerns typically ranges between 3-6 sessions. Longer-term or more intensive treatment ranges from 12-18 for PTSD and 35+ for OCD. Occasionally clients may desire maintenance appointments after completing treatment that range from monthly to every 3-4 months.
